"Normale"

kind of synopsis and informations

At first born like a document of a representation about the holocaust, which happened in Brescia during may 95, afterwards it’s turned into an investigation surrounding normality.

“Normale” is a tentative document about the distance between the everyday man and the historical man, and the difficulty for both to recognize themselves in the same individual; so it happens that we can be moved by images or reports of genocide, and we can cling to our own cultural chains like abandoned children, without reflecting about our slavery, which consents and inspires history.

Something about voices and inscription: in the beginning the little girl’s voice says “the drop the drops” and the iscription is “50 years later 50 years before”, at the end of the first part the little girl’s voice says “ the mother the mothers, the problem the problems, the man the men” (in italian this is a primary school exercise).

I’m trying to translate the last song written by Franco Fortini and sing by Laura Betti,

this song have is important in the structure of the film.

I enclose here the originale of the Musil’s passage back of the card (in the card’s picture, the sheets with the names of over 7000 italian jews who died in extermination camps)

“Normale” have been shooting in hi band video8, afterwards recording in 35mm. the lengh is 11 minutes, b/n.

In July’ 96 was shown in Pesaro for the” XXXII Mostra internazionale del nuovo cinema”, and in october 96 at the “International film festival of new film and video” in Split, Croatia.
